GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — It’s the last time that music lovers and vinyl collectors will gather outside The Exclusive Company on Record Store Day.
The annual event comes after the music store announced its closing all of its locations later this year.
Record Store Day was in full swing Saturday at the music store one last time.
On April 7th, the store announced the shut down.
The Exclusive Company has been in business for over 60 years.
It decided to close its doors after founder and owner James Giombetti passed away.
In a post, it read in part, “Mr. G was the Exclusive Company and the Exclusive Company was Mr G. Sadly and simply, the Exclusive Company cannot, and should not, go on without the other.”
Record Store Day started back in 2008 and happens every year at 1,400 independently owned stores in the United States.
The day is made up for people to celebrate the uniqueness of vinyls, and record stores.
“You get to hold it, it’s nostalgic and I mean we have a record player from 1960, it’s great, it’s awesome,” said Shannon Barnaby.
Barnaby has been collecting records with his kids just over a year.
“The first time I actually saw them open up a record and read the lyrics, I was like, I win,” said Barnaby. “They actually open it up and look at the pictures and posters in there. It’s different than just having it digital on your phone.”
This may be the last Record Store Day, but The Exclusive Company in Green Bay won’t be fully closing its doors until July.
“I’ve been coming to this location for 20 years and it’s kind of sad to see it go,” said Young.
The liquidation sale of the entire inventory will continue until then.
“It’s a nice day, but it’s even a nicer day to get out and buy some records,” said Young.
Taylor Swift is this year’s global ambassador for Record Store Day.
The artist took part by releasing a clear vinyl containing two versions of her song “The Lakes.”
Only 10,000 copies were made for purchase.
