OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A place in Oshkosh is making a difference for some on this Easter holiday.
Father Carr’s Place 2B held its annual Easter meal on Sunday.
Those who are in need or on their own, could once again celebrate in person with others.
“I love helping, I love volunteering so if I can do that, I would love to,” said Michelle Deiner, a volunteer with Father Carr’s.
Deiner has been volunteering since she was 3 years old.
“It makes my heart happy doing it,” said Deiner.
Both the tradition and her service are decades strong.
“I’m told that Father Carr celebrated all the holidays… Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, by having people over with food, so 48 years,” said John Neiman, executive director at Father Carr’s.
This is the first time in 2 years the church offered dine in, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We had to switch everything that we do,” said Neiman. “It always used to be in person dining so we had to switch everything to a drive-thru or delivery.”
But this year, Neiman says now that dining in is back, Father Carr’s got rid of its drive-thru option, but delivery stuck around.
Earlier in the day, Easter meals were prepped and packaged to be delivered for those in need who are unable to come in person.
Nieman says they delivered about 375 meals.
This isn’t Father Carr’s only holiday meal.
The life enrichment center hosts a Thanksgiving and Christmas meal too.
“We love to do this, we love to reach out, that’s our job is to help people in need,” said Neiman. “The banner behind us really says it all, we could not do this without donors or volunteers and that’s who is here today helping us out.”
That includes volunteers like Deiner, who has this message for anyone able:
“If you can, please take into the community and volunteer some hours,”
This week also marks National Volunteer Recognition Week At Father Carr’s Place 2B.
The life enrichment center will be honoring and thanking its volunteers all week, including with a public dinner this Friday.
