GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — COVID-19 numbers are creeping up again in Wisconsin, but doctors aren’t panicking about it.
Bellin Health’s Doctor Brad Burmeister says health systems are doing pretty well.
As of Friday, hospitals in the northeast region of the state reported treating 16 COVID-19 patients, down from 221 on Jan. 17. In the Fox Valley region, no one was hospitalized with COVID-19, down from 174 on Jan. 15.
“Thankfully right now, COVID isn’t as big of a burden as it has been, and I’m really hoping that it continues to stay this way,” Burmeister said. “I think it’s very unlikely we’ll go back and experience what we did during (the spread of the omicron variant) with that really significant surge. So many people have some degree of immunity from vaccination or from being infected previously.”
Burmeister also offered advice for those wondering whether they should get another booster shot. A fourth dose of vaccine was authorized earlier this week for people 50 and older and immunocompromised people.
