GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A woman is facing an arson charge after a fire broke out at a Green Bay home.
Kari Seyler, 32, is also charged with obstructing an officer in connection with Thursday’s fire at 1109 S. Taylor Street.
According to the criminal complaint, Seyler, who lived in the upstairs apartment with her husband, told investigators she came home to discover a fire inside and called 911.
During a walk-through, investigators learned from Seyler’s husband that $400 Seyler put in a dresser drawer was missing.
When speaking with Seyler, she later admitted to investigators, she never placed money in the drawer and said she was in an abusive relationship and was battling depression.
According to the criminal complaint, she told investigators she took a lighter and heated up a phone charger on the dresser until it was hot. She then wrapped a piece of paper towel around it until it ignited. She said she laid down on her bed for a while and then walked out and waited to see the smoke. Once she did, she called 911.
Before Seyler was taken to jail, she was evaluated at a crisis center.
