SHAWANO COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – State investigators say a man who died after a deputy-involved shooting in Shawano County took his own life.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation says the shooting occurred Friday afternoon in the town of Richmond.
A Shawano County sheriff’s deputy arrived to a storage unit facility on Oak Avenue for what turned out to be a domestic disturbance. A 911 call from a woman brought authorities to the location around 3:55 p.m. Friday.
The deputy reported shots fired and exchanged gunfire with the man, who died at the scene. The woman is also dead. DCI says the deputy discharged their weapon, adding, “initial evidence supports the male subject took his own life.”
No law enforcement personnel were injured.
DCI continues to review evidence. It will turn over investigative reports to the Shawano County District Attorney.
The sheriff’s deputy was placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
