FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two people have been taken into custody following an incident Sunday morning.
At approximately 6:56 a.m., an officer from the Fond du Lac Police Department saw a vehicle driving recklessly near Martin Avenue and East Pioneer Road.
Police say that when the officer tried to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle tried to intentionally ram into the squad car.
The vehicle attempted to drive off, prompting a pursuit that reached up to 40 miles per hour going through several residential areas in the southeast and northeast parts of the city.
Around 7:10 a.m., the vehicle came to a stop in the 100 block of Schubert Lane.
As officers and deputies set up to do a high-risk stop, the driver, a 39-year-old woman from Ripon, fled on foot.
Officers were able to safely take the passenger of the vehicle, a 24-year-old from North Fond du Lac, into custody.
The garage door of a home near the traffic stop happened to be open, and it appeared that the driver of the vehicle may have gone into the residence.
Officers were soon able to determine that one of the two residents of the home, an 88-year-old woman, was still inside.
A phone call was made into the residence.
Through initial communication with the suspect, who was inside the home, it was learned that she had good rapport with a FDLPD detective.
FDLPD Detective Vance Henning was able to contact the suspect via phone, and through negotiation was able to convince her to surrender without incident around 8:19 a.m.
The owners of the home were not injured.
This incident is under active investigation by the Fond du Lac Police Department, and no further details or information is being released at this time.
