GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Meteorological spring arrived at the beginning of March, spring on normal calendars is set to turn the page on Sunday, and weather this week has been making people across Northeast Wisconsin feel like the season has arrived as well.
The temperatures on Wednesday reached over 60-degrees in Green Bay, but is that signaling an end to yet another cold Wisconsin winter? National Weather Service Meteorologist Timm Uhlmann says, not quite yet.
“We could still see a bout of cold here and there, which is a typical Wisconsin spring…Expect to see more days like today, but we can also expect to see the opposite where we see the temperature drop back down into the 30s,” Uhlmann told WTAQ News. “The normal temperature for right now it’s 40 degrees, but we typically swing back and forth about 10, maybe 15 degrees above and below…we could still see a plunge into the thirties again here and the next month or so.”
With the mercury falling into the 30s, that means winter-like precipitation isn’t done either. However, he doesn’t expect another April storm like the 15 to 35 inches of total snowfall from April 13 -16 of 2018.
“We actually have some potential for snow here at the end of the week. On Friday going into Saturday, there could be a brief round of wintry mix or maybe even some snow fall,” Uhlmann said. “It shouldn’t accumulate too much. Because of how warm we are, it should just melt off, but there could be a couple inches of snow around the area.”
Temperatures are expected to run above normal this spring.
“That should help us get rid of those coats earlier than perhaps the average year. But we really don’t see consistent temperatures above the 50s or 60s for at least another couple months,” Uhlmann said.
