A 19-7 season was good enough to earn the Green Bay Phoenix women’s basketball team an at-large bid to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament. For just the second time in six WNIT appearances, Green Bay will host a first round game. The 14-17 Minnesota Golden Gophers of the Big 10 will come to the Kress Center Thursday night for the first round matchup. Tip off is set for 7:00 PM.
GB is 0-5 all time in WNIT play, losing the first four all on the road including a 62-60 decision against Minnesota in 2014. The only other time the Phoenix hosted a WNIT was in 2019 when they fell to Kent State 64-59.
The Phoenix and Golden Gophers have met 14 times overall, 2018 was the most recent matchup. Minnesota leads the series 8-6 but GB is 3-2 against them on their home floor.
