Runner-up a year ago, the Mineral Point Pointers made sure they’d take that last big step together and they did by beating Laconia 53-42 for the Division 4 state championship at the Resch Center. It capped a perfect 30-0 season for Head Coach Michael Keyes, bringing home the second title in school history.
A closely contested first half had Mineral Point on top 22-16. That lead grew gradually in the second half and reached 45-35 on basket with 8:10 remaining. That would be the last field goal for the Pointers. Playing with a lead, the Mineral Point guards ran a delay well and got to the free throw line to fend off any Laconia rally. Laconia could connect on only 3 of 22 three point attempts.
Tierney Madigan led the Spartans with 14 as they finish 25-5, taking home their second gold ball since 2019.
Ella Chambers carried Mineral Point to their first title since 2016 with 20 points, hitting 4 of 8 three point shots. Mallory Lindsey had 14, going 8 of 10 from the line down the stretch, successfully stretched one more game this time.
