WAUKESHA, WI (WSAU) — The man suspected of driving his SUV into the Waukesha Christmas Parade last November will go to trial in October.
Judge Jennifer Darow set the trial for Darrell Brooks Jr. to begin October 3rd and run through the 28th. She also disclosed that she knows the family of one of the parade victims, but promised to not let that influence her handling of the case.
Brooks faces a laundry list of counts including homicide and recklessly endangering safety for the incident in which he’s accused of driving through a police barricade and into the parade route.
Six people died and dozens were injured.
Brooks’ attorney has asked to have the trial moved out of Waukesha County, or to have a jury pool from outside the county due to media coverage of the incident. So far Judge Darow has not honored that request, but has ordered both sides to draft a jury questionnaire to gauge potential bias in the case.
