GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – If you’re looking for a summer job in Green Bay, you’ve got a few options that include a series of bonuses.
Bay Beach Amusement Park is offering hundreds in bonuses, but the City of Green Bay is also looking to hire more than 40 lifeguards for the summer season.
“We actually do have that all set up for lifeguards as well. We have an up to $350 bonus for anyone who works as a lifeguard this summer in a full time schedule,” said Parks Department Recreation Supervisor, Ann Moeller. “Basically you’ll get a sign on bonus and then if you worked the entire summer through the end of summer you’ll receive another bonus. With lifeguards, we actually have a mid season bonus, which is actually the biggest one.”
That includes a $350 bonus for anyone who works as a lifeguard in a full time schedule. Moeller says applicants don’t even need their lifeguard certification ahead of time if they can pass the interview and in-water skills test.
“If they pass those two things, we’ll get them enrolled in a lifeguard certification course. It is going to be zero charge for them to do that, we take care of all the costs and we get them certified and ready to go for the summer,” Moeller told WTAQ News.
But how many lifeguards does the city actually need? According to Moeller, they just need more.
“Optimistically, we’re about halfway there. If we can get to the 75 number, we’ll be in really good shape,” Moeller said. “We have a good number of people returning from last summer. I still have quite a few people out there that I don’t know if they’re coming back or not, or what their plan is, so I’m just trying to hire as many as we can get on board.”
The city says open interviews will take place every Thursday, beginning March 17 through April 28 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Room 510 at City Hall.
This year, bonuses will be paid to any full-time lifeguard upon hire, at the end of July and at the conclusion of the season. Full time lifeguards will begin at $12.37 an hour but can also earn up to $13.19 per hour. Free uniforms, training and other fun incentives are also offered.
The summer of 2021 saw a lifeguard shortage, causing some pools to close, limiting swimmers’ options.
