FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man who led police on a chase and then had a standoff with officers – all with a 5-month-old child in the car – was committed to a secure mental health facility for four years after being declared not guilty by reason of mental disease.
Louis Stone pleaded guilty in January to four charges, including first-degree reckless endangering safety and fleeing police, but was then found not guilty by reason of mental disease, court records show. That means it was determined he couldn’t discern right from wrong at the time of the incident, and is not being held criminally liable.
During a hearing Tuesday, Judge Andrew Christensen ordered the placement with the state Dept. of Health Services for treatment, court records show
Stone allegedly took off after police tried to pull him over March 9, 2021, for going 90 mph in a 55 mph zone. Eventually, he stopped in Dodge County and a standoff ensued.
Also charged in the case was Paulina Meshiguad . She was a passenger in the vehicle and told police she was trying to get Stone to pull over — but Stone said she was acting as a navigator during the chase. Her trial is scheduled for April 12.
