GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A former Green Bay music teacher suspected of inappropriate student contact made an initial court appearance Monday.
Kelton Jennings, 26, was arrested Friday on a charge of sexual assault of a student by school staff. Formal charges have not been filed as of Monday night.
According to a FOX 11 photojournalist in court, Jennings joined the hearing last-minute via Zoom. He was given papers, looked at them and asked for his attorney, who was not present. An adjourned initial appearance will be scheduled for a later date.
In a letter to families and staff, the Green Bay Area Public School District says it received an allegation in January of inappropriate student contact against Jennings. As the district and police investigated, another allegation was made. Jennings resigned from the district last week, according to the letter.
Jennings taught fifth grade instrumental music at seven elementary schools in the district.
