APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A group of Wisconsinites with Ukrainian heritage is asking people to donate essential items, which they’ll be sending to Ukraine.
Volunteers with Wisconsin Ukrainians gathered in Houdini Plaza in downtown Appleton Friday night with a large truck. There, they collected essential humanitarian, military and medical items.
One of its organizers says it’s designed to help Ukrainians as long as the war continues.
“There are no planes coming into Ukraine, bringing local food,” said Jonathan Pylpiv, creator of Wisconsin Ukrainians. “There are no factories being able to build or make things. That’s a nation of over 40 million people. It’s not practical for them all to flee. So we’re going to go indefinitely, and we’re setting this up for the long haul.”
The group says it’ll drive the truck to Chicago, where it will be loaded onto a plane to be sent to Poland before reaching Ukraine.
