SURING, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Suring School Board meets tonight and while the criminal charges filed this week against the superintendent may be brought up by the public – the district prefers they don’t.
Kelly Casper was charged Monday with six counts of false imprisonment for how she allegedly detained students to do strip searches for vaping cartridges. An initial appearance is set for March 23.
The Oconto County District Attorney has said the strip searches themselves were legal.
At Wednesday’s meeting, one hour has been set aside for public comment, with a limit of two minutes per speaker.
“The Suring Board of Education would prefer personnel issues not be brought up during public input. The Suring School District has other means in handling issues involving personnel. The School Board asks that you please work with our administration regarding personnel issues and if needed, personnel issues would then be brought into Executive Session and not as part of public input,” the agenda states.
As for the closed session, there are several items apparently related to the Casper situation which may be discussed. Among the items:
- “A. Preliminary consideration of specific personnel matter and potential implementation of interim action involving District employee;
- B. Consideration and potential action on assignment of administrative duties;
- C. Consideration of specific pupil behaviors that involve confidential pupil record information;
- D. Confer with legal counsel regarding strategy to be adopted regarding Notice of Circumstances of Claim and items A and B above;
- E. Motion and roll call vote to return to Open Session to announce or take action, if any and if appropriate.”
For items D, a lawyer for some of the parents of students who were searched have told FOX 11 they plan to sue the district.
The meeting is at 5 p.m. in the small gym.
