APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – A 37-year-old Appleton area man is facing charges from two jurisdictions for attempting to flee police in a stolen skid steer.
“Definitely an unusual morning, that’s for sure!” said Grand Chute Community Resource Officer Travis Waas. “We responded to assist Appleton PD, who were actively following the stolen skid steer from their jurisdiction.”
Grand Chute Police were called to assist Appleton officers around 8:00 a.m. Thursday morning in actively following a stolen skid steer from their jurisdiction.
“It’s typically loaded onto a vehicle, onto a trailer, and that’s how it’s driven off. And it’s typically in the middle of the night when everyone’s asleep. This incident is unique, it was during the morning when people were awake, when employees were out and able to see what was going on,” Waas told WTAQ News. “There’s a lot of things we just don’t know at this time. All of that motive and thought process is going to be handled by Appleton Police through their investigation.”
The skid steer entered Grand Chute from Capitol Drive and drove northbound on Gillett Street. The suspect then drove westbound on Evergreen Drive, before turning northbound onto the railroad tracks parallel to Gillett Street. The skid steer continued northbound along the railroad tracks before exiting into a field behind homes in the 4900 block of Gillett Street.
“I don’t know if he was having issues driving it, but we were fortunate that the skid steer stopped. The officrers that were following him on foot were able to approach the skid steer safely, open the door, and remove him,” Waas said.
37-year-old Tyler Peschke is facing recommended charges from Appleton Police – including Felony Eluding, Operating a Motor Vehicle without the Owner’s Consent, OWI 4th Offense, Misdemeanor Resisting, Misdemeanor Criminal Damage to Property, and additional warrants.
The Grand Chute Police Department is also recommending charges of Criminal Damage to Property, Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting for the conduct which occurred in Grand Chute.
