GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A teen who provided the gun brought to East School will be supervised by the county for two years, a judge ordered on Thursday.
State law does not allow the media to identify those charged in juvenile court.
A gun was discovered in a locker at Green Bay East High School in December.
The 15-year-old boy who provided the gun to a girl to take to East was placed previously found delinquent — the juvenile version of guilty. On Thursday, he was placed on supervision for two years, including placement at Rawhide Youth Services. He is already at the New London counseling and treatment facility, and appeared in court by video from there.
Judge John Zakowski also ordered him to perform 100 hours of community service, and write a letter of apology to the school. He also ordered the gun to be destroyed.
“There is a place for guns, but not in school,” the judge said.
The teen declined to comment in court when given the chance Thursday. When asked by the judge how it was going at Rawhide, he said “good.”
Zakowski encouraged the boy to take advantage of the programming at Rawhide, saying it’s his “last chance to get away from some of this type of behavior.”
A 16-year-old girl was also found delinquent in the case for bringing the gun to East. She was placed on supervision by the county for one year, ordered to perform 100 hours of community service and write a letter of apology to the school district. She also must participate in victim impact panels and undergo counseling. Additionally, she may not have contact with the boy charged in the case.
The incident at East High happened a week after three social media threats against Preble High. Four teens are facing juvenile court charges in those cases, as well.
The combination of the threats led the school district to place all middle and high schools into online learning for several days in December.
