OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Oshkosh Fire Department is starting a new program to battle opioid overdose deaths.
They’re leaving behind Narcan kits when they go on 911 calls for an overdose.
Each kit has two doses of Narcan, which can be administered in a nasal spray, along with instructions. There’s also a card with information on how to get help for substance abuse.
“The quicker you can get this Narcan, the better the results are,” Oshkosh Fire Department member John Holland said. “So we want to make a more positive outcome, so by using these kits, having them right there, we’re obviously hoping for the best.”
The Winnebago County Health Department created and supplied the kits.
The program started last Monday, and they’ve already handed out one of the kits.
