GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – With positive cases of COVID-19 continuing to go down here at home, so are hospitalizations.
It’s a sign that experts, like Bellin Health’s Brad Burmeister, say could make the disease transition from pandemic to endemic status.
“We’re at a point now where our numbers are looking much better,” said Burmeister.
Burmeister tells FOX 11 lower levels of COVID disease activity at Bellin Hospital makes staffing levels much more comfortable.
So much so that after two months of work, the Navy will be leaving Bellin soon, with its last day being Sunday.
“Overall numbers are looking fantastic. All the key metrics we look at to see how we’re doing as a community are on a downward trend. And I think people should be really excited to see where we are headed.”
According to the Wisconsin Hospital Association, there are 78 COVID patients hospitalized in the northeast region of the state, down 25 over a one week span.
With 14 in the ICU, it’s down six over the last seven days.
Falling cases and hospitalizations allow Bellin to be focused on other measures of community health that may have been neglected over the last two years.
“We have been continuing to watch closely cancer screenings. Are people getting their colonoscopies done? Are people getting their mammograms done?'” questioned Burmeister. “Kids got a little behind in vaccines other than the COVID vaccine.”
Adding monitoring these issues allow our region to be the healthiest it can be.
