APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A fire that started in a chicken coop, spread to a nearby garage in Appleton, causing about $10,000 worth of damage, officials say.
Crews were called to a report a fire in the 1200 block of E. Park Hills Drive around 12:15 p.m. Monday.
Crews were able to put out the flames within 15 minutes.
All chickens survived the fire however they are now displaced. There were no other injuries or displacements.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
Appleton firefighters add that residents should secure heat lamps using more than just a spring clamp. Screws and other mechanical means should be used to secure heat lamps inside animal enclosures.
