FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A local UPS employee saved a Waupun resident from losing more than $22,000 in a scam.
Earlier this week, Fond du Lac deputies received a report from a local UPS store of a suspicious package.
A UPS employee said something did not appear right when an elderly citizen brought a package into the store for delivery.
After making contact with the person who dropped the package off, investigators learned scammers had used internet and phone communications to convince the victim to send money to an address in California.
Inside the package was $22,560 in cash.
The sheriff’s office says it is grateful this UPS employee had the wherewithal to recognize the concerning circumstances involving the shipping of the parcel and that their actions had such a positive impact on the community.
The status of this investigation is ongoing.
