GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Another complaint has apparently been filed on how Green Bay handled the November 2020 election, challenging the appropriateness of a grant used by the city.
Theresa Sipes and Donald Schneider filed the complaint with the Wisconsin Elections Commission against Mayor Eric Genrich, former chief of staff Celestine Jeffries, and former clerk Kris Teske.
The Wisconsin Voter Alliance, which assisted Sipes and Schneider, provided Fox 11 with a copy of an email from the Wisconsin Elections Commission, noting the receipt of the complaint.
However, because of the statute the complaint is filed under, it is considered a ‘confidential’ complaint, prohibiting the WEC from confirming the filing, or providing updates on the status, WEC staff tells Fox 11.
As of Friday morning, a city of Green Bay spokesman said the city has not received any notification of the complaint.
At issue is a grant the city received from the Center for Tech and Civic Life.
“Any agreement where the City’s election officials receive Center for Tech and Civic Life’s private money to facilitate in-person and absentee voting within the city violates Wisconsin Statutes 12.11’s prohibition on election bribery. The city of Green Bay received $1,615,000 of the Zuckerberg money funneled through the Center for Tech and Civic Life,” the two argue.
The Wisconsin Elections Commission has already rejected another complaint about the same grant. A lawsuit appealing that decision is currently pending in Brown County court.
Additionally, Wisconsin Republican lawmakers have proposed a state Constitutional amendment to prohibit such grants.
