WRIGHTSTOWN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The village of Wrightstown has approved annexing nearly 20 acres of land from the town of Kaukauna for a new regional Wisconsin State Patrol headquarters, which will be built adjacent to the current weigh station.
The board approved the measure on a 6-0 vote Tuesday night, according to the clerk.
The state patrol plans to replace the regional office in Fond du Lac with this facility, according to DOT’s Mark Kantola.
A construction date has not been set, but the work will be done in conjunction with the expansion of I-41 from two lanes to three in each direction between Schuering Road in De Pere and Wisconsin Avenue in Appleton. That work is tentatively scheduled to begin after 2025.
The village is able to provide sewer and water services to the site that the town cannot. The site is east of I-41, and west of the frontage road by the golf course.
The existing weigh station – formally known as a “Safety and Weight Enforcement Facility” – will be replaced as part of the project, according to the DOT’s website.
The State Patrol building project is also expected to include a 300-to-400 foot communications tower.
“The current headquarters needs upgrading and replacing it with a new building co-located with the SWEF would save money,” the project website states.
