OCONTO, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — There will be no formal charges filed against Suring School District officials after allegations that students were strip-searched in an effort to find vaping devices.
Oconto County District Attorney Edward Burke, Jr. announced Tuesday that after reviewing the sheriff’s office’s investigation, the searches conducted were not “strip searches.”
According to Burke, Jr., the female district superintendent and school nurse searched six girls last month to see if they had “vape cartridges.” One of the students was asked to pull her upper garment away from her body, but her private parts were not exposed to the officials. The other students also said their upper private parts were not exposed.
Two of the students said they were allowed to keep on the leggings they were wearing, as they were not wearing anything underneath. The superintendent conducted a hands-on search of the outside of the legs, according to Burke, Jr.
