The University of Wisconsin Green Bay Phoenix basketball teams are streaking. In opposite directions.
The GB women made it 8 straight victories with a 53-39 win at Detroit Mercy on Sunday. Sydney Levy and Hailey Oskey each scored 10 points for the Phoenix as they forced 24 turnovers in another stellar defensive effort. The Phoenix is now 15-5 on the year, 11-3 in the Horizon League, even in the loss column with conference front runners IUPUI and Youngstown State. The final two home games of the regular season will have Green Bay host UIC on Thursday before a showdown with the IUPUI Jaguars on Saturday at the Kress Center.
The Phoenix men on the other hand, continue to slide. On Sunday, GB fell to rival UW-Milwaukee on the road 54-44. The Phoenix led by five at the half but were outscored 37-22 after intermission. Cade Meyer continued his strong play with 18 points while Nate Jenkins added 15. Green Bay drops to 4-21 overall,, 3-13 in the Horizon League. Milwaukee was sled by Donovan Newby with 17 points as they improved to 9-18, 7-11 in conference play. GB also wraps up it’s home schedule this week with games against Purdue Fort Wayne on Friday and league leading Cleveland State on Sunday. Those games are also at the Kress Center.
