GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The man who allegedly killed another man due to a drug debt and then dumped his body at UW-Green Bay was ordered Friday to stand trial.
Pedro Santiago-Marquez is charged with first-degree intentional homicide and mutilating a corpse for the September shooting of Jason Mendez-Ramos, whose burned body was discovered on the campus.
In court Friday, after a detective testified, Santiago-Marquez was ordered to stand trial. Arraignment is scheduled for March 7.
Another suspect, Alexander Burgos-Mojica, was also in court Friday for a preliminary hearing but he does not have an attorney yet. He’s charged with aiding a felon for allegedly assisting Santiago-Marquez. A balance of initial appearance was scheduled for March 18.
Jeisaac Rodriguez-Garcia was charged last month with mutilating a corpse for allegedly setting the fire. Rodriguez-Garcia has been ordered to stand trial, and returns to court Feb. 21 for an arraignment.
According to the criminal complaints, Santiago-Marquez owned an east side business. Mendez-Ramos, Burgos-Mojica, and Rodriguez-Garcia all currently or previously worked for Santiago-Marquez.
A witness told police Santiago-Marquez owed Mendez-Ramos $80,000 for a cocaine deal. Rather than pay Mendez-Ramos, Santiago-Marquez allegedly killed him, the complaint claims.
Mendez-Ramos’ body was dumped on the edge of the UWGB campus, and set on fire. Security videos, cell phone tracking information, and DNA tie Rodriguez-Garcia to that scene, according to the criminal complaints.
