GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Green Bay’s first and only children’s hospital is shedding new light.
A new sign is now prominently displayed outside HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital.
“The sign is actually a planned part of a renovation and it’s really a symbol of the dedication to the amazing work that takes place here,” said Executive Director at HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital, Amber Chibuk. “Really, it’s a symbol of our dedication to the amazing work that we’ve been doing…It’s a symbol to the community that we’ve been here and we’re going to be here to continue to treat Northeast Wisconsin and the UP to provide excellent care, dedicated and focused on the immediate needs that kids need.”
The children’s hospital is located within the walls of HSHS St. Vincent Hospital on S. Van Buren Street.
“Everybody on these floors, this is our life’s work that we put into this. This phased renovation was really a gift from the community. In 2019, we did a ‘Join the Fight’ campaign, which is a multi-million dollar fundraising campaign,” Chibuk told WTAQ News. “We designed these spaces of a hospital inside a hospital. We designed modernized spaces with technology and design created especially for children in the very unique ways that require the care that we provide.”
The illuminated sign weighs 500 pounds and measures nearly 13 feet high and 22 feet wide. It was installed about 80 feet up on to the hospital’s exterior near the corner of Webster Avenue and Porlier Street earlier this month.
The sign installation also marks a milestone in the hospital’s major renovation project. Efforts to modernize spaces within the hospital began in 2019 following a multi-million-dollar community fundraising campaign. Since then, HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital has opened a new, state-of-the-art pediatric emergency unit; remodeled its pediatric and pediatric intensive care units; and updated all spaces with new décor, lighting and soothing imagery featuring the natural landscapes of Wisconsin.
A new, interactive video wall made up of thirty-two 55-inch TVs is also featured on the main pediatric floor allowing patients and families to play games, dance, watch movies and more.
In 2022, additional rooms will be added to the newly remodeled pediatric and pediatric intensive care units, as well as a new family lounge stocked with food and drink, and space for laundry, a new teen lounge giving teen patients and family members a space to call their own; and a new room specially designed for breastfeeding moms.
“We want the parents be able sleep in a room with their kids if they want. We added showers for the parents, laundry, a place where parents can go to a nice lounge and have something to eat, drink, and watch TV separate – so they can have a little time away as well,” Chibuk said.
