GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Two of the students charged with social media threats against Preble High School have been expelled by the Green Bay Area Public School District, their attorneys said in court Monday.
During the course of a one-week span in December, there were three separate social media threats against Preble High. Four students face charges in juvenile court for those incidents.
State law prohibits the media from identifying those being prosecuted in juvenile court.
Two students, both males, appeared in court Monday morning. Details of which incident they allegedly were involved in were not discussed in court.
In the first case, a fact-finding hearing – the juvenile court version of a trial – was scheduled for March 7.
In the second case, a denial – the juvenile version of a not guilty plea – was entered Monday. The case returns to court for a motions hearing March 9. A defense motion to have the school district excluded as being considered a victim may be addressed then.
The Green Bay Area Public School District has not said what disciplinary actions it took against the six students, but during the separate hearings Monday, the defense attorneys disclosed the information while discussing if the use of electronic monitoring bracelets should continue.
The school district previously provided this statement to FOX 11 on how it has followed up on the incidents, in terms of suspensions or expulsions: “Due to student privacy, the District is unable to share information. All offenses were processed in accordance with school board policies and rules.”
A representative of the Green Bay Area Public School District attended both hearings virtually but did not comment.
The other two students charged in connection with the threats against Preble High return to court later this week.
Additionally, two students face juvenile charges for their alleged role in a gun which was found at East High the following week. The combination of the threats led the school district to place all middle and high schools into online learning for several days in December.
One of those students, a 15-year-old male, was declared delinquent – the juvenile version of guilty – at a hearing last week. The disposition hearing is scheduled for Feb. 23, although the teen was expected to be transported last week to Rawhide Youth Services near New London.
The other student charged for the East High incident returns to court next week.
