The Green Bay Phoenix women’s basketball team played their most complete game of the season in beating Northern Kentucky on the road Saturday 67-58, ending Northern’s 10 game winning streak. Shooting a season high 55.8% from the floor, the Lady Phoenix got another strong offensive performance from Seymour’s Hailey Oskey who poured in 22 points. Cassie Schiltz added 14 as Green Bay swept both weekend games on the road to improve to 10-5 on the season, 6-3 in Horizon League play. GB will finally get a chance to play at home this Thursday night hosting Youngstown State. Because of COVID-19 issues in early January, it will be the first home game for the Lady Phoenix since December 20.
The GB men dropped both games on the road over the weekend, falling at Youngstown State last Thursday and staying winless on the road after a 62-60 loss at Robert Morris on Saturday. Cade Meyer led GB with 16 points while Kamari McGee added 15. Offensive rebounds were an issue as GB gave up 17 which led to 16 second chance points including a pair of free throws with :25 left that iced the win for the Colonials. Green Bay drops to 4-16 on the season, 3-8 in Horizon League play and they’ll stay on the road to take on conference contender Cleveland State in Ohio on Friday.
