APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A dispute over health care employees in the Fox Valley is headed to court.
ThedaCare claims Ascension recruited and then hired a group of Theda’s staff. ThedaCare says it’s asking the Outagamie County court to give it time to replace the staff.
In a court filing, ThedaCare asks Ascension to work with it on a temporary basis in its affected department.
ThedaCare says what Ascension did puts many communities and patients at risk and could possibly lead to patient diversions.
ThedaCare’s CEO said while the company understands and respects people have choices, Ascension’s decision would disrupt the access to critical care, and ThedaCare wants the court to be able to maintain the status quo until ThedaCare can hire replacement staff.
Meanwhile, an Ascension Wisconsin spokesperson responded, saying contrary to what ThedaCare says, Ascension did not actively recruit the staff from ThedaCare. They applied for open job postings.
Acsension says ThedaCare had a chance to counter-offer, but declined.
ThedaCare owns hospitals in Appleton and Neenah, among others. Ascension’s hospitals include St. Elizabeth in Appleton and Mercy in Oshkosh.
