FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) – A man is in custody, accused of assaulting a Fond du Lac police officer, going as far as breaking the officer’s nose.
Police were called to an apartment building on East Merrill Avenue just before 10:30 last night for a report of a neighbor trying to break down a door.
While speaking with several residents inside the apartment building, a 44-year-old man approached the officer. When the man continued to walk toward the officer and residents, the residents were told to go back inside their apartments.
After a few words were exchanged between the man and the officer, that’s when, police say, the man suddenly attacked.
The officer was taken to the hospital for a broken nose, fractured finger and other non-life threatening injuries.
The officer, who is a four-year veteran of the police department, was released from the hospital after treatment.
The man accused of attacking the officer was taken to the Fond du Lac County Jail and is being held on several criminal charges.
