KESHENA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Menominee Tribal Legislature is seeking to recover funds it says were inappropriately acquired by a former tribal chairman.
Gunnar Peters was expelled from the tribal legislature in October. The legislature alleges Peters received payments and retained items of value he was not entitled to while he was chairman and through his position on various committees.
The tribe also says it uncovered a scheme involving Peters and a fomer employee that would have resulted in more funds being inapproriately acquired.
The legislature has forwarded its findings to tribal police to determine whether to recommend Peters face prosecution.
