APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — Appleton Police are closing an investigation into a fatal 2021 shooting that killed a 38-year-old Appleton resident, concluding the man was shot by a homeowner in self-defense.
Police say that on June 20th at around 4:30 A.M., Jonathan Tolley forcibly entered a home in the 2800 block of East Newberry Street, began yelling and causing damage inside of the home, and ultimately broke into the bedroom, where he was shot by the homeowner. The homeowner was on the phone with the police at the time.
Tolley’s motivations aren’t clear, and he had no connection with the homeowners. Toxicology reports indicated his blood alcohol level was .272 at the time of his death.
