OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Oshkosh Area School District is rethinking its mask policy amid surge in COVID-19 cases and staff shortages.
The school district says it extended its face mask requirement for all students and visitors through Jan. 28.
The policy was previously to relax on Jan. 15.
The district also reduced its staff isolation and quarantine from 10 days to five days in certain situations.
School officials say these changes allow the district to mitigate COVID but also have staff return to work faster so that in-person learning can continue.
At this time, there is no change to the district’s required isolation or quarantine periods for students, which is still 10 days or seven days for household contacts.
The district adds it is still hiring for multiple positions with immediate start dates and has a continued need for substitute teachers and teacher assistants. Anyone with an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in any field can become a substitute teacher. Substitute teacher assistants do not need a degree but should be comfortable working with students with special needs.
