GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich has asked a judge to order former state Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman to purchase full-page ads in three newspapers acknowledging “inaccurate” statements that Genrich violated a responsibility to testify in a probe of the November 2020 elections.
Gableman is leading the Republican-ordered investigation into the election. He has said the goal isn’t to overturn election results, but to see if election laws were followed and need to be changed. The probe’s focus includes Green Bay and Madison, two cities with Democratic mayors and which received grants from the Mark-Zuckerberg funded Center for Tech and Civic Life to help administer the election.
Gableman issued subpoenas to Genrich and Madison’s mayor, but both cities say they agreed to turn over the requested documents and, as a result, were told that “none of the legislative subpoenas directed to the City or its officials would be enforced,” according to a court document filed Tuesday by the city. However, since then, the city contends Gableman and his staff have falsely claimed Genrich is avoiding testimony.
