NEW HOLSTEIN, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The New Holstein Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its officers after a bout with cancer.
According to posts to the department’s Facebook page, Macullen Schnell passed away overnight Saturday into Sunday with his family by his side.
“Macullen will never be forgotten as he will always be a member of our family,” said Chief Eric Fisher of the New Holstein Police Department in a Facebook post. “We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and anyone who ever had the privilege of meeting this great young man. Please pray for the family and those who knew Macullen.”
Schnell was diagnosed with cancer 1 1/2 years into his time with the department and had to take a medical leave, according to a post he wrote that was put on the department’s Facebook page a few days ago.
“Throughout my ongoing battle with cancer, I have tried to stay in touch with the department as much as I can,” wrote Schnell in the post. “I am extremely thankful for all the support from my co-workers, the City of New Holstein, and all of you, the community members. Not only supporting myself, but supporting the New Holstein Police Department!”
