SHAWANO COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — With the Holiday Season approaching, supply chain issues continue to have an impact on some area businesses in Northeast Wisconsin.
From dip nets on the wall, to the packages of lures nearby, Hacker Bait Shop near Shawano Lake, offers a variety of equipment many anglers may need. But owner Stan Vertz says getting that product on the shelves can be tough.
“You might get a third. It’s way down. And what you order might not come in for a few weeks,” said Stan Vertz, Hacker Bait Shop Owner.
Vertz says supply chain issues are to blame.
“Like the ice augers there. They were ordered in early November, and we just got them in, just two of them. I ordered 12. I got two,” he said.
Hacker Bait isn’t alone. The store manager at The Reel Shot in Appleton says he’s adjusting to the situation.
“We do a really good job of chasing product down and ordering stuff and forecasting. That doesn’t dictate that it’s going to get here in time. But all the stuff that we are expecting to have is still a little bit delayed,” said Marc Drewek, The Reel Shot Store Manager.
Drewek says finding certain types of ammunition is still challenging, and he’s waiting for some fishing supplies to arrive too.
“We have no control over trucking or personnel, or any of those issues, the stuff that out there for us, it’s just an issue of getting it from point A, to point B. We’re obviously at point B.
Drewek says the shelves at the store are far from bare, and there are plenty of holiday items, like hats, gloves, and flannel shirts to go around. Meanwhile, at Hacker Bait, Stan Vertz says he’s less optimistic.
“It’s hurting the economy. When you can’t buy stuff, and you can’t get it in and sell it, naturally it hurts,” said Vertz.
Many business leaders say they expect supply chain issues to continue for another year, maybe more.
