GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Days before Christmas, Green Bay’s hospitals have put out a holiday wish list of their own — and it involves people taking precautions against COVID-19.
“We know you’re sick of COVID-19 — believe us when we say that we are, too,” reads the letter to the community from Aurora BayCare Medical Center, Bellin Hospital, HSHS St. Vincent Hospital and HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center.
Our wish this holiday is simple — please think twice. Do just one thing, take one more step to protect yourself and those around you. Don’t look back on this moment and think “if only.” If only I had stayed home when I was ill. If only I had worn a mask in crowded indoor areas.
The letter, which points out that health care workers are “tired,” but “not going anywhere,” says the hospitals need the community’s help.
“Please get vaccinated. Please get boosted. Please get tested. And please mask when you should,” the letter concludes, in bold print.
As of Wednesday, Wisconsin Hospital Association data showed hospitals in Wisconsin’s Northeast region were treating 178 COVID-19 patients, with 34 of those in intensive care.
Of the region’s 207 ICU beds, eight were immediately available.
