GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The criminal case against a man accused of shooting his father has been placed on hold, after the defendant was found not competent to stand trial.
Sedric King, 25, has pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect for the March 16, 2020, incident in Ashwaubenon. He’s charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
The not competent ruling means King is unable to understand the court proceedings and/or assist in his own defense. Psychiatric treatment will continue. If King is deemed competent, the criminal case would resume.
King allegedly shot Dennis James in the hip with a .45 caliber handgun at a residence on Santa Barbara Drive. James said the two argued about an electrical fuse box being taken apart by King, according to the criminal complaint. James was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
