GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Thousands of local children will each get gifts, books, and food as part of the Salvation Army’s Annual Christmas Distribution.
Nicole Hanley is the Marketing Coordinator for the Greater Green Bay Salvation Army and says it’s quite the operation, and well attended too.
“We have about 1,700 families, which equates to approximately 4,500 children,” Hanley told WTAQ. “They’re going to receive Christmas Gifts, they’re going to get books, and they’re also going to leave with a box of food.”
Over 300 volunteers make the event happen every year.
“Everybody who is attending the event pre-registered online, they fill out their application process and then get approved to attend the event,” Hanley said.
It all happens at in an open storefront in the Bayside Marketplace development in Ashwaubenon, where gifts were set up on tables, allowing parents to pick out what their kids would like.
“We call it a toy shop, it’s set up like a store,” said Hanley. “Everything is on the tables so that they can take a peak at the different games, puzzles, and toys so they can figure out what best suits their children.”
The Green Bay Metro Fire Department and the Marine Corps Toys for Tots programs support the distribution. There will be two more distribution days next week.
