GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Iowa based grocery chain Hy-Vee has their sights set on Bay Park Square Mall.
The store would go up in the former Shopko location. Village of Ashwaubenon Community Development Director Aaron Schuette says it’s welcome, especially in that location.
“It fills out the last vacant anchor store at the Bay Park Square Mall, which is phenomenal,” Schuette told WTAQ. “I think we can all recognize that malls across the country have struggled, and Bay Park Square is coming out of that.”
It could be coming sooner, rather than later. Schuette says that, after obtaining a liquor permit for the location, which will be voted on this evening in front of the village board, and several other bureaucratic steps, the store could open by fall of next year.
Recently built Hy-Vee stores have included not only expansive grocery sections, but a restaurant, bar, and a number of retail options.
The nearest Hy-Vee location to Green Bay is in Madison.
