APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Judy Baseman is retiring as Appleton schools superintendent after this school year.
The district announced her decision on Wednesday. She has been with the district for 26 years, and is in her fifth as superintendent.
Her letter to the school board noted that her husband has taken a position as a pastor on Washington Island.
“It has been an honor to serve the Appleton Area School District as superintendent and I have been truly blessed to work with such dedicated staff, administrators, and board members,” Baseman said in a news release. “I am deeply grateful for the opportunities I have had through the years to lead at both the building and the district levels while learning from and working collaboratively with talented and supportive superintendents, colleagues, staff, families, and students along the way. My life has been enriched in so many ways by becoming a member of the Appleton Area School District community in 1995.”
“The board would like to thank Dr. Baseman for her outstanding leadership and expertise during her tenure as superintendent. The district, our students, and the broader community have benefited from Dr. Baseman’s dedication and service” school board president Kay Eggert said in a news release. “As a board, we will now begin a thorough process to select her replacement and assure a seamless transition as we approach the next school year.”
Baseman’s retirement is effective June 30. The board plans to vote on accepting her retirement letter at its meeting Monday.
