ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) — Volunteers worked to assemble 2,500 packaged Thanksgiving dinners at the Johnsonville Tailgate Village east of Lambeau Field on Tuesday afternoon.
It’s all part of Christian Outreach’s Annual Ecumenical Thanksgiving Dinner. Each delivery-ready meal has everything you could possibly care to eat on Thanksgiving.
“Applesauce, cranberry sauce, there’ll be a pie cut in there, pumpkin pie, and then a roll,” said Packers Community Outreach Senior Coordinator Amanda Wery. “And then in the hot-to-go’s, they have Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy.”
It’s the second year in a row that the ministry hasn’t held their typical in-person meal in the Lambeau Field atrium due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s obviously much nicer when we can have 900 people sitting in the atrium and serving them a nice dinner,” said Director Jessica Zeitler. “But we just wanted to make sure we kept up the tradition and made sure we feed those that needed it this year.”
The meals are delivered, typically, to those who will be alone on thanksgiving and families who need assistance, although they do open some of the meals to the public.
The event is part of the Packers’ Give Back program.
