OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) — It’s expected to be a busy weekend out at Wittman Regional Airport as thousands flock to EAA AirVenture, the largest fly-in aviation convention in the world.
There’s so much to do and see at EAA AirVenture that it would take at least two days to really feel like you’ve seen everything on the grounds.
“Think of the biggest state fair you’ve ever been to, times ten, and then put an aviation theme to it,” said Jim Church, who flew in to the event from Utah. “That’s AirVenture.”
This year is just as large as ever, and between the exhibitors, display planes, and air shows, there really is something for everyone.
“On the flight line they’ll see huge airplanes, big and small. The warbirds are here, vintage airplanes, there’s new technology here,” said EAA Spokesman Dick Knapinski. “And all of it right in Oshkosh.”
It’s something that was sorely missed last year. Dan Helsper, an EAA regular, flew his 1929 Pietenpul Air Camper, one of the oldest aircraft at the event, into Wittman Regional Airport.
“I’ve been coming here since 1980,” said Helsper. “I hated last year. I mean it was just terrible. I plan my whole year around coming to this place.”
There are airshows every afternoon and plenty of exhibitors.
