GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Electric scooter sharing has arrived in Green Bay.
Bird electric “share scooters” have been deployed around the city, and they’re available for anyone to use for a small fee per minute. You can access the scooters on your smartphone.
“The way the program works is they’ve got an app,” said Matt Buchanan with the City of Green Bay’s Community and Economic Development Department. “You download the app, and you can use that to pay for rides.”
The scooters can be located through the app, and that’s the only way riders can unlock them–they won’t work otherwise.
The scooters are part of a pilot program that runs through the end of the year.
“It’s really just another tool to get around town for those that just have a short ride and don’t want to get in the car,” Buchanan told WTAQ. “It’s just another option.”
The scooters only work in-town and are designed to be used on city streets–not the sidewalk. Local staff from Bird will maintain the scooter fleet and work to ensure the scooters aren’t improperly parked.
At the end of the pilot program, the city intends to re-evaluate the program.
Appleton also has the scooters available.
