OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The connection between Wisconsin and the ill-fated journey of the RMS Titanic in 1911 is at the center of a new exhibition at the Oshkosh Public Museum.
Jeffrey Taylor, director of collections for EM Group says 40 of those on the ship were either Wisconsin residents or were heading to Wisconsin as immigrants.
“They were coming here to start new lives,” said Taylor. “They saw opportunity in lumber, dairy farming, everything Wisconsin was rich with back in those days.”
The exhibit also showcases over 100 recently conserved artifacts. It will open to the public on July 21.
