GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Green Bay Brewery is now serving ice cream in its tap room. The brewery says so far, its been a hit.
Is it beer? Or is it ice cream?
“I thought it would taste like beer but it doesn’t at all. It’s actually very sweet, it kind of tastes like an ICEE,” said Ashley Nalepka of Appleton.
Well, it’s both beer and ice cream,– it was added earlier this summer to Badger State Brewing Company’s menu. Which has expanded over the last seven years from just six craft beers, to seltzers, ciders, and even more beers.
“The next step was obviously to add ice cream,” said events and entertainment director for the brewery, Jennifer Radloff.
Because the ice cream is actually infused with beer, you will have to show an ID to prove you are 21 or older when ordering.
“You put a freezing agent in it, and beer, and we mix all natural fruit purees in it to kind of make our own concoctions,” said Radloff.
Badger State says it’s a great option for customers who still aren’t sold on craft beer.
“We’re always looking for new innovative ways to get customers in the door,” said Radloff. “Despite this being kind of a beer-centric area of Green Bay, some people are still not sure on craft beer or kind of still assume it’s just IPAs so we decided to bring in the frozen ice cream machine.”
And while the ice cream is perfect for warm summer days, the plan is to keep the ice cream around even when the temperatures cool off.
“Over the winter as we start getting our barrel-aged beers out we’ll probably start making some dark chocolate-y ice cream for guests,” said Radloff.
Badger State plans to create a new flavor each week.
Badger State also says as far as they know, they’re the first to bring beer ice cream to Northeast Wisconsin. Their manager mentioned Madison and Milwaukee breweries have their own spins on the dessert.
