HORTONVILLE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Members of the Hortonville High School Marching Polar Bears were tested for COVID-19 at several Fox Valley Walgreens pharmacies on Sunday.
The band will continue its recent tradition of honoring U.S. veterans by traveling to Hawaii, and performing at Pearl Harbor.
To go, nearly 230 members and supporters need to get tested, to meet Hawaii’s pre-travel requirement of a negative test within 72 hours of travel.
This year’s trip replaces one which was canceled last year, because of the pandemic, but people who are still in the band say they’re excited.
“I’ve had a few friends who have graduated in past years who have gone to Hawaii and amped me up to actually take the trip,” says Grace Vanden Heuvel, a senior percussionist.
“It was a bummer last March, when we were told that we couldn’t, but I’m glad that I’m able to live up that tradition and carry it on to the other students in the coming years.”
The band will leave on Wednesday, and be there for a week. This is the sixth time it will have gone to Hawaii since 2001.
