OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A well-known grocery chain is welcoming all eligible ages for walk-in COVID-19 vaccine appointments.
Your grocery store carries more than just your favorite snacks.
Pick ‘n Save started administering COVID-19 vaccines in March.
But now, everyone ages 12-years-old and older can walk-in to get their shot.
“We have seen more children come in with their parents, you know 12 years and older and they are very happy,” said Oscar Espanol a pharmacist at the Oshkosh Pick n’ Save on Koeller Street.
On the first day of Pfizer vaccine FDA approval for ages 12-15, Espanol vaccinated six kids.
“Parents were inquiring about it before, the process started on a Monday when it was approved by the FDA and we had to wait until Wednesday,” said Espanol.
Parents tell Espanol they have peace of mind.
“One of the reasons is because this allows them to be a safer environment when they have to do their activities,” he adds.
On weekdays, Pick ‘n Save pharmacies are open until 8 p.m., making it easier for kids to come after school to get their vaccine.
“I think we are seeing a bit of a rush for the 12-15 year olds to be vaccinated with their parents,” said Roundy’s vice president of communications, James Hyland.
Hyland says they have had more kids come in than anticipated.
The Pfizer vaccine is available at all 67 Wisconsin Pick ‘n Save pharmacies — keeping accessibility in mind.
“I think that’s important in less populated areas too where it might be an anchor in the town,” said Hyland.
Hyland says having the vaccine available at any local pharmacy allows people to come to a setting they are familiar and comfortable with.
