GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A local hockey team’s tradition will be different this year.
Since 2000, the Green Bay Gambler’s Teddy Bear Toss encouraged fans to donate stuffed animals for children across Northeast Wisconsin. Following the team’s first goal of the game, fans tossed the animals onto the ice.
This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the animals will be collected before the games on Friday and Saturday.
“The Teddy Bear Toss is one of the great Gamblers traditions,” said Gamblers President Jeff Mitchell. “I am disappointed we will not be tossing teddy bears this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, but given the generosity of our fan base, a lot of kids who are going through a tough time will still have a reason to smile.”
The stuffed animals must be brand new (tag still on) and in a plastic bag.
Tickets to the games can be purchased online or by calling 800.895.0071.
Since 2000, the event has collected nearly 120,000 stuffed animals for children in need.
